YohApps — Small apps. Real problems.

YohApps

A one-person studio shipping small, private, useful apps — each built twice, once in Swift and once in Kotlin, in English, French and Spanish from the first build.

Built by Yohann Hemery

An IT professional and independent developer exploring practical tools and creative experiments across productivity and chess.

This space is where ideas are tested, refined, and occasionally shipped.

A year ago I had built one app. What that first one taught me is how little of an app is the app — signing, store declarations, three languages, privacy pages, a fourteen-day closed test that has nothing to do with code. So the next one reused what the first had learned, and most of it is now packaged: audio, motion, localization, dialogue, tip jars, consent and footers, as kits that ship inside more than one app. Alongside them sit written playbooks for the jobs that repeat — settings screens, launch screens, tests, builds and delivery, copyright, this site. Each app costs less than the one before it, which is the only honest measure of whether any of it was learned.

The other half of the year was learning to run the work rather than just do it: one written list per project, one release pipeline every app walks, and decisions recorded where the next session can find them — the habit that comes from losing an evening to a question you have already answered. Still plenty left to learn, but there is a difference between having built an app and knowing how to ship one. The full list is under Dev Tools.

Apps

Eleven projects, each with an iOS and an Android side, plus one that lives in the browser. Status on every card is what is true today, not what is hoped for.

Sites

Some ideas work better in a browser than in a store. No install, no account, nothing to update.

Concepts

Ideas being explored in the open — including the ones that are not software. Some will ship, some won't. That's the process, and hiding it doesn't make it truer.

Dev Tools

What actually builds these apps. No sponsorships, and nothing listed that isn't open on a machine this week.

News

What actually happened, with dates. Releases, closed tests, rejections and the occasional thing that worked.

About

Philosophy

  • Solve real problems. If I can't explain why an app matters in one sentence, it probably doesn't.
  • Ship small, iterate often. Perfect is the enemy of done. Get it out, learn, improve.
  • Respect the user. No dark patterns, no data hoarding, no manipulation. Just useful software.
  • Stay independent. Revenue comes from happy users, not from advertisers or investors.
  • Say where things really are. A prototype called a prototype is worth more than a launch date nobody believes.
